Blogger Help

Google has a very cool & free way to document your thoughts, pictures, videos and so much more. It’s called Blogging, and to get started, just go to:
https://www.blogger.com/start

After you’ve created an account or after you’ve signed in, all posts can be edited at any time. There will be a little pencil-looking tool at the bottom of each of your posts. You and only you can see this little pencil, and therefore only you can edit your posts. And only when you're signed in.

By pressing the enter or return key twice, you'll get a break between paragraphs.
By pressing it once, it starts a new paragraph right underneath.

Not all sites are this easy. For instance on MySpace, if you ever want to break up things, the enter or return key won't work. You actually have to type in 'br' in between the greater-than & less-than symbols (with no quote marks or spaces between) That's html code for "break here" So if you wanted paragraphs with spaces between them you would put br between the greater-than & less-than symbols on one line, then br between greater-than & less-than symbols on the next as well.

With Mac's and PC's being different, not every user will have the same editing buttons. But everyone should at least have a button that looks like a photo - obviously for adding pictures.

I used to position them in different places - left, center, or right... but I found that the text would sometimes end up in really screwy places. Other times if I used different places within one post, the pictures would overlap. Sometimes it turned out really cool...other times it just didn't work at all! It just ended up being more work than it was worth to try to mix it up.

It doesn't matter at all if you put in different sizes of pictures in one post I tend to use the biggest size the most, but you can choose whatever size you prefer.

Other helpful things to know when using Blogspot:
Up at the top right hand corner is where you'll sign in, & after you've signed in also where you'll customize things. You'll see 3 different tabs - posting, settings, & template.
Under the posting is where you'll write & edit all your blog posts.
The settings tab is where your formatting, publishing, & comments options are. I let anyone comment on mine whether they have a blog or not. I think you'll find there's no need to worry about people writing mean or inappropriate things. We're more mature than that.

The template is where can add more elements to your page layout, change the fonts, font sizes, and colors. This is also where if you wanted to, you could pick a new template. When you go to page elements, that's where you'll add things like the picture at the top or the websites on your side bar. You can always edit and reposition many of these things.

One thing I've learned about blogging, is that it's an overall positive thing. I read a lot of 'reality-check' type things, but I don't think I've ever read anything just straight-up mean or down-right negative about others. A lot of the times though, if you feel like you're complaining about your life by telling a story, almost every other mother will find it hilarious! It feels so good to know that you're not the only Mom, Dad, or student going through that stuff.
